Little Smiles to collaborate with Daydreams

By | Featured, Grand Rapids Blog Article, News & Announcements, North Muskegon Blog Article, Pediatric Dentistry

We are excited to introduce a new and unique resource called Daydreams Pediatric Center. This exciting new facility is the only resource of its kind in West Michigan, specializing in pediatric dental surgery.

Little Smiles’ pediatric dentists Dr. Cristian Brutten and Dr. Chad Zillich are accredited with Daydreams. Our association means that all Little Smiles patients have access to surgical dentistry at Daydreams.

We’ve included the following news release from Daydreams for more information. If you have questions, call us at Little Smiles and we will be happy to answer them for you.

. . . . .

On March 4, 2019, a new kind of healthcare resource opened its doors in Grand Rapids. Daydreams Pediatric Center is designed for children and dedicated to pediatric dental surgery. The first of its kind in West Michigan, Daydreams is an idea imagined and nurtured by founder Darren Riopelle, DDS.

As a practicing dentist for over past 20 years, Dr. Riopelle noticed a recurring challenge specific to pediatric dentistry. Due to limited resources and growing demand, the wait time for pediatric dental care often averages 1 to 3 months. For dental treatment that requires surgery, the wait time increases to an average of 3 to 6 months.

“The industry needed a new solution,” explains Dr. Riopelle. “We wanted to create something that would be a resource for everyone.”

In 2016, Dr. Riopelle reached out to Anesthesia Practice Consultants (apcpc.net) to explore a possible partnership. The result is a new children’s center dedicated to dental and oral surgery. Daydreams boasts a clinical team that includes operating room experienced pediatric dentists, MD anesthesiologists, licensed dental assistants, and pediatric nurses. The environment is state-of-the-art, equipped with multiple operating rooms and a family-friendly waiting room.

“The spaced was designed to provide a safe environment for surgery that is relaxed and trauma-free for children and their parents,” explains Becka Brooks, Daydreams’ Dental Assistant. “Everything about Daydreams was done with our young patients’ comfort in mind.”

But possibly the most notable accomplishment of Daydreams is its ability to see patients within just 1 to 3 weeks. Parents are able to contact Daydreams directly to inquire about treatment for their child, or pediatric patients may be referred to Daydreams by other healthcare providers. Before treatment, children receive a pre-operative exam to determine if they are candidates for anesthesia. After treatment, documentation is sent to the referring office for the patient’s medical records.

“We want this to be a resource for the healthcare industry,” explains Lindsay Robbins, Daydreams’ Surgical Coordinator. “Dentists, pediatricians, and other healthcare providers can refer there patients to us knowing that they are in expert hands. We work hard to make the process easy and collaborative.”

An open house is being planned for late Spring where the healthcare community will be able to tour the facility and meet the team. Daydreams is open Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

No one likes going to the dentist.

Or do they? For clients at Smile Dental Partners, dreading the dentist is a thing of the past, thanks to a unique approach to dental care that includes providing exceptional customer service.

Dr. Darren Riopelle, owner of Smile Dental Partners, says that is the most satisfying part of his job: engaging a group of people and showing them there is a different way to go about dentistry that creates a fun, enjoyable experience for both staff and patients.

“There’s an ‘aha!’ moment,” Riopelle said. “People can’t always pinpoint exactly what it was, but they know they had an expectation of what going to the dentist would be, and what they experience with us is something totally different.”

Smile Dental Partners is a team of general dentists, pediatric dentists and orthodontists all under the same roof working together with the same patients. This allows their team to address the whole family’s needs, from birth to adulthood, without needing to refer anyone out. Additionally, Smile Dental has a separate building that provides all the back-office support, so the practices can focus strictly on the patient rather than worry about answering calls or billing insurances. When a patient is in the office, he or she is the top priority.

“It’s really great for families,” Riopelle said. “They don’t need to worry about filling out multiple insurance forms, getting referrals or finding additional offices. It all happens in-house, so the continuity of care is a lot better.”

As Riopelle says, dental care offers an opportunity to have face-to-face interactions that are becoming less frequent in today’s world of technology. With this opportunity comes a responsibility to engage people on a personal level.

Smile Dental Partners is dedicated to doing this on a variety of levels. Each of their locations offer separate wings for children and adults. When patients walk into the practice, they are greeted warmly and directed to the right or left, into the pediatric wing or the adult wing. The pediatric wing is completely “kidded out” with child-friendly décor, including a large concrete tree, a six-foot long fish tank, the area’s largest treasure chest, and a giant touch screen to play games.

The adult side, too, has a unique touch. Each room has a door that can close for patient privacy and all dental chairs are situated facing the door, ensuring dentists are making eye contact upon greeting.

Aside from providing excellent customer service, Smile Dental also sees community involvement as a top priority. They have coordinated a variety of community initiatives, from their free dental clinic to the annual Halloween candy buy-back program, and interactive presentations at area schools in February for Dental Health month.

“We have a really fun program where we go into local second grade classrooms, and some preschools, and we teach the kids how to brush and floss. It’s fun and interactive and I absolutely love it,“ Riopelle said. “I don’t have much time for it, but I like to participate and stay in touch with the program because it’s such a good time.”

An exciting new service in Grand Rapids

Smile Dental is partnering with Anesthesia Practice Consultants, PC in Grand Rapids to start Daydreams PC. Daydreams will provide pediatric and other dental care under general anesthesia.

“We made it a kid-friendly area to do sedation dentistry,” Riopelle said. “It’s general sedation, just like what happens at hospitals, but hospitals are often not a viable option due to the reimbursements and the typical wait-time can be 6-9 months. Our setup allows us to have them in and out within just a couple weeks.” Riopelle said. “It’s very unique and will be a dramatic shift in how kids are going to be treated.”

Daydreams will begin seeing patients on March 4 and is located at 4505 Cascade Road SE, Suite B.

Smile Dental Partners has three West Michigan locations, in Grand Haven, Muskegon, and the latest addition in Grand Rapids.

Michigan’s first multi-specialty dental practice opens Grand Rapids location

By | Featured, Grand Rapids Blog Article, News & Announcements

After ten years of helping families smile along the Lakeshore, Smile Dental Partners is opening a new practice in Grand Rapids called Smile Cascade.

Since opening Smile Grand Haven in 2008, Dr. Darren and Paige Riopelle have been challenging the status quo of traditional dentistry with a high-quality, patient-centric, preventative approach. Today it is the only multi-specialty resource along the Lakeshore capable of comprehensive dental care from birth through adulthood.

The new Grand Rapids location on Cascade Road is home to three distinct specialties that are typically not found in one practice—Smile Cascade (adult and teen dentistry), Little Smiles (pediatric dentistry), and Smile Orthodontics.

“Our goal has been to provide a dental experience that is 180 degrees from what people expect,” explains Dr. Riopelle. “We combine a personal, friendly, and fun experience with state-of-the-art technology and a proactive approach to dental health.”

Smile’s patient-centric approach is evident throughout the new Cascade practice. Adults enjoy private exam rooms, convenient lunchtime appointments, and an adult family room equipped with wifi and coffee bar. For young patients, Little Smiles provides a child-friendly environment that starts with a life-sized tree and interactive games in the Little Smiles family room. Beyond that, kids enjoy an “underwater” exam room with a giant fish tank and flatscreen TVs above each child-sized exam chair.

“We go above and beyond to create a fun and positive experience for babies, toddlers, through adolescents,” explains Dr. Cristian Brutten, Little Smiles’ Pedodontist. “That first positive experience for young children is important to establish a good relationship with healthcare providers throughout their life.”

Making a visit to the dentist a positive experience for kids has been the inspiration for everything at the practice. Parents are invited to bring children as early as 1 year old to Little Smiles for a “chair ride” to help them feel comfortable with the environment before their appointment. The Little Smiles team visits local daycares and elementary schools for Dental Health Month to teach kids healthy dental habits and foster a positive relationship with healthcare providers. Little Smiles also provides special needs care and hospital dentistry services.

Smile Cascade is now open and accepting new patients of all ages.
